Residential weekend Greenhill Mon 13 October 2008
As part of Carrickfergus YMCA's ongoing Good Relation action plan, last week just over 50 parents and kids from Carrickfergus and Milford went away on a joint residential to Greenhill YMCA ,co Down where they had an action packed weekend together . The weekend consisted of a mix of fun events and workshop sessions . Parents and Children both took part in some challenging events that tested the skills and team working of all involved. Amongst the activities were, bouldering which involved climbing up a mountain stream in wet gear.
Apart from bring a big personal challenge ,you have to watch out for others in the group to ensure they got through it as well. There was also high wire and low wire activities which involved moving between tree tops on ropes before sliding down a rope to the ground. Archery also proved to be good fun, with all ages and stages taking part.

The group also did some workshop activities using arts and crafts to find out about each other, such as who they were, where they came from and what did they hope for in the future .

The team leaders Jim Crothers & Jeannie Mahood ( Carrickfergus YMCA) , Stewart Morris and Mary-Grace Cullen ( Donegal YMCA ) said it was one of the most enjoyable cross community events they had been on, with the young people and adults being completely at ease with one another after the initial ice breaker sessions.

Donegal YMCA hopes to host the group in late November.

Carrickfergus YMCA would like to thank the following organisations; Carrickfergus Borough Council, Community Relations Council, Co-operation Ireland and Horizon Surestart for making the trip possible.
