| New green lung in Carrickfergus |
Tue 05 May 2009 |
Mayoress Patricia McKinney opened the new Gardens created by the residents of Northlands Court and children of Woodburn/Sunnylands YMCA -Parents And Kids Together project . The project was assisted by the Environmental Conservational volunteers of NI who guided the Children and residents through a six month project of laying slabs , digging flower beds and planting trees . The Kids had a great time working with the residents to draw up the designs and then get on with the task of making it a reality . Four residents stood out in working with the Children come rain ,hail or shine .They were ,Ina Jenkins ,Kathleen Rogers ,Ethyl Connolly and Myrtle Graham each of whom was presented with a !! Yes you've guessed it a potted plant by the children at the opening event . Sam Crowe a local builder generously donated a bench seat for use in the Garden
Both Audrey Murray ,Manager at Northlands and Jeannie Mahood ,Project manager with PAKT said it was great to see the children and residents working together and how great friendships have been formed . The whole project has helped break down barriers and build links within the community. The Residents of Northlands now love to see the Children coming .
Both Northlands Court and the YMCA would like to thank Carrickfergus Borough Council for making the project possible ,by funding the project as part of the Local Community Fund scheme .
