Movie Premier with Glenfield Castlemara PAKT project Thu 29 April 2010
Over 100 people turned up, at the Oakfield centre to see the launch of PAKT projects Movie The Estates through the eyes of a Teenager . It was the culmination of 20 weeks hard work by 20 young people from the local estates that put the DVD together . For those of you who know Maurice Shearer ,project manager ,it was a case of Expect the Unexpected. as no one from the project other than the editor has seen the film prior to the launch . So it is a preview for those involved as well .

The movie involved the young people in putting together the story lines ,scripting , acting and finally filming and producing the film . It is expected that the majority of young people taking part will gain a CCEA level two performing arts award .

Following a brief introduction by Bob Loade ,Carrickfergus YMCA General secretary , and Maurice Shearer the young people involved took control and led everyone through a very enjoyable evening watching their movie ,followed by the bloomers and outtakes .

The YMCA was only able to carry out the project because of funding provided by the CAN Peace III partnership . The funding is all about building positive relationships at a local level and peace building for the future .The organisation would also like to say a big thank you to Studio On who worked closely with the young people guiding them through all the steps in making the DVD . Ken Armstrong of Studio On said the Studio On team loved the project simply because all the young people involved were so enthusiastic and brought lots of fun into making the film . He said they are a credit to the town . YMCA would also like to thank the PSNI ,Glenfield Community association and NIHE who contributed to the film and the young peoples research .

The night saw the launch of not one but three Peace III programmes involving the YMCA . Carrickfergus YMCA is also running a cross border programme with Donegal YMCA for Families and Young leaders who want to become peer educators tackling sectarianism and racism in society today .

They have also received a £50,000 grant towards their new youth and community centre which will be built in Irish qtr west. There have been some significant delays to the build project, but hopefully they will soon be over come . This will provide a much need facility in the community.
