| A Song and Dance at YMCA ! |
Fri 18 September 2009 |
| Everyone had a great time at the Ulster Hall 'Cavalcade of Song' fund raiser for Carrickfergus YMCA's proposed new 9,755 sq. ft. Youth and community Centre in Irish Quarter West. The evening consisted of songs, sketches from some of Andrew Lloyd Webbers musicals and dance routines by Kaleidoscope Danczworks. The 100 strong choir and lead singers, led by Musical Director William Cairns MBE, delivered a feast of song that catered for everyone's tastes. The event was very well attended and it was hard to believe that this may be the last Cavalcade provided by the Northern Region of the Association of Irish Musical Societies. The first Cavalcade of song took place in 1974 and has continued on an almost annual basis ever since. The Northern Region of AIMS has 22 members from Newry to Letterkenny and Portrush to Downpatrick and members of 10 of those societies were on stage at the Ulster Hall during the evening. The YMCA would like to say a big thank you to the AIMS Choir, Danczworkz, Billy Cairns, Olive Mellville and all involved for all the hard work put in during rehearsal and the wonderful evening they provided. |
