Carrickfergus YMCA is pleased to announce that the Association of Irish Musical Societies will be performing a Cavalcade of Song to raise funds for our new centre building project and to further the work of the YMCA in the Borough .
Carrickfergus YMCA was founded in 1874 and has a long history of social outreach and youth work . The YMCA's vision is of an inclusive Christian Movement, transforming communities so that all young people truly belong, contribute and thrive.The programmes we offer are ;

Bridge Project - Through targeting hot spots of antisocial behaviour the YMCA and partners work with disadvantaged young people to offer a variety of formal and informal learning opportunities to develop skills and achieve recognition.
Volunteers for Europe -Youth Exchange programme which offers opportunities for young people from across Europe to work with ourselves or other voluntary agencies in the borough
Friends For Ever - A ten Month cross community youth leadership project with two weeks of team building and community visits taking place in the USA .

The new centre which will open in November 2010 will include a single storey Multi-Activity Hall of 2,500 sq ft (238 sq. metres) and the design provides total usable floor space of 9,755 sq. ft. at an estimated cost of £1.15 million. These premises will enable Carrickfergus YMCA to maintain and expand its social outreach activities amongst young people from all communities in Carrickfergus Borough .It will also allow them provide facilities and support to other voluntary organisations working with young people in Carrickfergus. The new centre is only possible because of funding from the International fund for Ireland , Department of Education Youth Service , Ulster Garden Village Trust , TBF Thompson , Irish Salt Mining Company and Carrickfergus Borough Council .
The Association of Irish Musical Societies was formed in Dublin in 1965 and now has a membership of over 130 societies divided into 6 regions all over Ireland which relates to about 8,000 people actively involved in Musical Theatre, performing to an audience base of around 400,000.
This 'Cavalcade of Song' sees 12 of 22 member societies from the Northern Region returning to the newly refurbished Ulster Hall after an absence of 3 years, where for 24 years it was the fastest selling event of the Belfast Festival at Queens.
The programme will include music to suit all tastes - from Gilbert & Sullivan to Lennon & McCartney, to Abba to Andrew Lloyd Webber' performed by some of the best musical talent in Northern Ireland.
Due to the changing nature of the needs of societies and their involvement in their own fund raising events, this 35th 'Cavalcade' will probably be the last, so do be sure not to miss what is bound to be a very nostalgic evening.
