YMCA Quiz Night Thu 23 October 2008
The YMCA quiz night took place at the Coast Roads Hotel and was a real brain teaser . Quiz master Richard Curran led the 8 teams that took part through 10 rounds of mental gynastics . Abilities and memories were tested to the fullest .The teams were highly competitive with "Barred from the bar" , "The Last Minute" and "Blackpool Raiders" all vied for first place throughout the competition and ended up in the top four places .
Prizes were provided by local businesses and were much sort after . Thanks to their generosity there were even a few items for auction the end of the quiz .
The atmosphere was very friendly with lots of friendly banter throughout the evening despite the competition .
General secretary of the YMCA Bob Loade said and it was a great encouragement to the YMCA team to see so many people at the quiz and thanked every one for coming along to give their support .The monies raised are going to be used to replace equipment in the YMCA's Area 51 Youth drop in Centre . The evening raised £400 for the youth centre in total
Area 51 Youth Centre has lots of activities and projects to get involved in. It is located at 10 Cheston street . The nights are Monday ,Thursday ,Friday and Sunday 7.30 to 9.30 pm .
Among the equipment available for use at the centre are five PCs providing broadband internet access, a pool table, table football and much more.
The centre provides a base for the Senior Youth Club and offers a space where people can 'drop in' to chat, meet other people or just relax. The centre also offers a Youth Information Point and space for the more educational based projects that the YMCA offers such as the Youth Awards and Basic Skills courses.

Carrickfergus YMCA would like to thank the following local sponsors for the evening . Coast Roads Hotel , Dobbins Inn , Zoo Park , Pa Pa Browns , Harbour Inn, Castle Web solutions , Woodsides and the Ominiplex . With a special thanks to Richard Curran who led the evening so well .
